That was a Cracking Night and made up for some of not being able to attend the Christmas Disco due to snow. At the last Lodge Colin Magee appealed for more help on the night and what help he got. Many hands make light work, over a dozen helped before, during and after.
Although the time on the tickets was 19:30 to 23:15 most with cars were there by 19:15. We saw Mr Chan arrive, the star of the show, Bradley Magee helping him in with his gear. This was the third time Mr Chan has entertained us, he had another good night and played a nice mix of music, when we ate he played Shadows songs with the volume turned down, the party goes were were jiving to the music of the fifties. Most knew the words of the classics he played so if they did not dance they sang along.
At 20:30 Linda Knapp and Colin Magee uncovered the food, I was the first to get up to fill my plate accompanied with Tom Tennick, the life and soul of any party, when it was announced to “help yourselves to food”. I had been working and had not had my Tea as we say in Yorkshire. Soon queues developed it was then I explained to the ones at the back of the queue to get a plate and to help themselves from the other side of the horse shoe table. It was lovely to see so many helping themselves as over a hundred guests were present including Dennis and Betty Packman who had been the Lodges guests at the 150th celebration earlier in the year. It was now time for pudding and room was found by moving the platters of food which were now empty, this soon went.
A small amount of the remaining food was left available for anyone to help themselves and the dancing continued. Most of the night the floor was packed with dancers having a really good time. The different Lodges were represented well with members of the Good Intent, Garden of England, Lord Holmesdale, Pride of Kent and Flower of Kent, plus guests and potential new members. Doreen brought her friend Molly who she meets when walking the dog, who had a really good time. Dennis and Betty brought three friends from their Lodge of South London District they said to me they are going to ask Charlie Boswell, to keep them informed of up and coming events for the year ahead.
Towards the end of the Stephen the Flower of Kent's IPNG drew the raffle then thanked all of the helpers which included Pam, Colin, Bradley, Ann and John, Penny, Val, Dave, Pat and Roy, Bill, Marina, Arthur, Fred , Pam and Mr Chan then wished all a safe journey home. Raffle over some started to leave, dancing went on till 23:15 when too many to mention helped to clear the room of tables and chairs, sweep the floor. As we all left all agreed it had been a really good evening.
Next Event at the Flower of Kent is a Quiz
