Sixty five Oddfellows, friends and potential new members attended the Valentines Disco. Tom the DJ provided a nice mix of oldies and new tracks which for most of the night the floor remained full. Most of the time he played Disco from the sixties and seventies with a dip into the fifties when couples jived.
Due to start at 19:30 the guests started to arrive at around seven perhaps allowing too much time to get round the roadworks in Sidcup High Street. A couple of the tables were moved to allow more to sit together, cleverly done to avoid blocking the fire exits. Once seated the meal was served, this consisted of a Hot Baked Potato making full use of the new cooker accompanied by quiche, chicken and thick sliced ham and beef, grated cheese and salad. There was various cakes to follow.
Marina Morris did a sterling job on the bar, serving so many on her own. Glass collections was made easier by most taking the empties back to the bar when they ordered the next round of drinks. Dancing continued most of the night till the raffle was drawn, only five quality items in the raffle which was nice to win a good prize without the raffle going on too long.
Raffle over we returned to dancing. There was a nice tribute to Witney Houston whos' funeral was held today in America following her untimely death of the Theme from Bodyguard, where couples still were able to dance in hold even at the quiet part. After this he played my request of “Words by Ronan Keating” which is a lovely Waltz. There was another couple of slow ones when Tom moved back to Disco for the last ten minutes. Pam Magee thanked the caterers of Lynda and Colin, Marina at the bar and Tom for the Music. By this time some began to leave, some needing to catch the bus or to waiting taxis for the responsible ones who wanted a drink. The tables we starting to be cleared by the usual gang, empty glasses, bottles and cans to the bar, the vases of roses to the back of the room.
This was another great night.
The next event in this hall is Andy Owen on the 10th March
