Foresters Dinner Dance held at King Charles Hotel, Gillingham 6th March 2010

Oddfellows from Epsom, Canterbury and St. Marys Cray and Dartford joined members of Foresters Court "British Flag" at the King Charles Hotel for a lovely meal followed by speeches and dancing till Midnight. The guest of Honour was Oddfellow Bro John Bennett Chairman of the Board of Trustees for the Convalescent Home who gave a small speech. He said the Home is under offer and the deal is expected to go through. Somehow the money raised will be put towards the costs of members staying at other Convalescent Homes, the details are still to be worked out.

The four course meal was very nice, served complete to the table. There were toasts to The Queen. Baskets of flowers were presented by Gloria Cameron. At the end of the speeches the names of the Ladies for each table were placed in a draw, lucky winners were presented with the table decoration by the youngest gentleman on the table. There being no official photographer, Stephen Howden from the Flower of Kent Lodge of Oddfellows took the photographs.

There were gifts on all tables for the guests of a box of Thorntons chocolates for the Ladies and pens for the Gentlemen. Another nice touch was that on the back of the place settings is an offer to have lunch on Saturday 29th May at the same hotel for just £5, food is so good here I will be taking them up on the offer.

The speeches were kept short and this was followed by dancing. Raffle tickets were then sold which raised £267 for the Convalescent Home Charity. The last three dances were, Old Lang Syne, The Royal Anthem and finally the Last Waltz. Gloria Cameron wish all a safe journey home and stated this next dance would be on Saturday 5th February 2011.
