Christmas Tea Dance held at the Flower of Kent 28th November 2010

It was nice to see so many of the new members of the Flower of Kent Lodge attend this Christmas Tea. Linda & Reg, Pam and Colin, Ann and John, Joan and Alf and Jacqui helped to prepare the food. Our DJ was Tom previously seen at a Private 18th Party held in the Lodge. Tom is the DJ for the Children's Party next Sunday, it is hoped the snow goes by then. Fred Breed had put up the Christmas decorations, the large tree was decorated by Pam, Colin, Linda and Reg. Fred also manned the bar but as there was free-flowing tea many drank tea instead, with Jacqui keeping the teapot full.

The DJ Tom played a few favourites to get the dance started, though they did not rush up to dance so Noble Grand Stephen and his wife Christine got up for a dance. With this the floor filled. Sheets of paper were put onto the tables for requests which were handed in, I know he was playing them as my request was played, Can't Buy me Love by the Beatles, nice to see a DJ who plays what the dancers want, also the music was not too loud and those wishing to talk or sing were happy. As you can see from the Photos Tom played a lot of Party Dances

Around 4pm Colin and Linda removed the cling film and foil from the food and a dis-orderly queue formed on both sides of the table and we all helped ourselves to the lovely food. Many came back for the table for seconds and thirds, at the end the remaining food was taken home by some rather than it going to waste. There was so much there we all wondered how this could be achieved when the ticket price was only £5.

Near to the end Noble Grand Stephen Howden was handed the microphone by Tom the DJ. He thanked the caterers, the DJ, the tree decorators and Fred for getting the extensive Christmas Trimmings up in time for the event. He then wished everyone a safe journey home. Just before 7pm things started to come to an end, many stayed behind to put away all of the tables. By 19:10 the room was cleared in time for the Sunday-nighters which are a small number who come in on a Sunday evening, the boys play Snooker or Darts and if there are enough they play social Bingo with Fred Breed the caller.  All Welcome
