Forty nine Oddfellows from the Flower of Kent and the Garden of England had a splendid day out in Canterbury. It was kind of Fred Breed to come down and open the gates to the car park to keep the cars safe. It was also nice to see the new members of the Flower of Kent which included Ruth who was only initiated eleven days previously.
The coach from Plan-it Travel picked half on Sidcup Hill and the rest at the Flower of Kent Lodge at 10am. The coach made steady progress arriving at Canterbury just before 11. As we embarked from the coach which left us at the side of the bus station and went down to the shops, chimes sounded marking the 2 minutes silence on the the day we officially honour those who died in wars around the world, at a second chime all continued to go about their business. Pam told us to be back at 15:45 for our journey onto the Dog and Duck at Plucks Gutter eight miles from Margate. We arrived 30 minutes later and went into one of the rooms set out for our party. The food was up to the usual high standard. Even before the meal was served Les Stankovich had set up on the small stage and started to play songs and sing. Les really knows his craft and played a wide range of new and old songs, the meal over lots got up to dance. This continued to 20:00 where we made our way to the coach. Just as we were leaving the Landlord came onto the coach and asked if we had a good time and wished us a safe journey home. All the way home a DVD played music thorough the coach. The lights were dimmed on request as we drove out of the car park
We got back to Flower of Kent Lodge around 21:25. The gates were open as the Sunday-nighters were in the Lodge room playing social bingo. The spare gate key was handed to Fred Breed who was the Bingo caller.
All remarked it had been a really good day out and this year the weather had been kind to us. The next Event is the Children's Christmas Party on 4th December and the Adult party on the 17th December
