Proceedings started promptly at 19:30 with Lonnie Donegans' My Old Man's a Dustman for which many of us started to sing. When Peter Played At the Hop by Danny and the Juniors the floor filled many couples doing the Jive. There was a nice mix of music from the three eras, fifties music was very popular. At 20:15 the Ploughman's was distributed by the catering team and Peter Clarke the DJ lowered the volume to have fifties music in the background. The Ploughman's was followed by Chocolate or Strawberry Gateaux. Marina Morris delayed her holiday to accompany Arthur New at the bar, Fred Breed was on hand to help out and collect the glasses through the evening. Following the food Peter turned up the volume and played Abba's Waterloo. Dancing continued until the raffle which with the income from the Tickets raised £256 for the charity, added from the £277 from the Cream Tea last month helps the Provincial Grand Masters Charity, Leukaemia.
At the end of the evening Pam Magee the Vice Provincial Grand Master and Linda Drakley the Provincial Grand Master made the announcements. Pam told us of the up and coming events like the Christmas Party, Linda Jay Entertains, The Murder Mystery Play and Quiz and a Christmas meal at the Dog and Duck near Canterbury. Linda thanked the caterers and helpers, bar staff, Peter and all who had helped out during the evening. Peter will be the DJ at the New Years party. At the end of the evening as Peter switched on all of the lights, a recorded message stated the DJ thanks you and if you are driving please do not forget your car. The music continued to play for a while as the tables were cleared and the place tidied up. It had been a wonderful evening with 48 guests attending.
