What an absolutely wonderful night. 192 guests enjoyed a Traditional Burns Night. The Laird, Brother Graham Elliott was Master of Ceremonies, first to arrival was the Haggis. This was piped in and served in the Traditional way by three Pipers form the Sutherland Pipes and Drums. Once arrive there was the Selkirk Grace, read in a Broad Scottish tongue. This was followed by a Wee Dram of Scotch, a special bottle of Oddfellows Whiskey was place in front of all, to share the Toast to the Haggis
The menu was Haggis, Neeps and Tatties, followed by Meat Pie and Vegetables, then Scottish Highland biscuits served to table by our own Scottish clad waiters of Bradley Magee, Terry Smith
Peter Clarke, Ken Tristram, Graham Elliott. Following the meal there was a number of speeches from Bro Peter Clarke, Bro Graham Elliot and in reply for the Lasses, Sis Doreen Creasey who ended her address by an amusing story, explaining Cars can be thought to be female but computers are male, ending with if you wait a little longer you can get a better model.
Some retired to the anti-room to allow the Alexander Suite staff to clear tables off the dance floor. The band “Bread and Butter” played a real mixture of songs from all eras. Best of all, the three pipers stood in front of the stage and played music for the Gay Gordon's, plus other dances the floor filled with dancers.
Dancing continue to late then as the carriages arrived, the Laird stood by the front door and wished all a safe journey home. Most said they will be back next year.
