This is one of the most popular events on our calendar. This was a complete sell out of 110 plus helpers and no wonder, when first prize in the raffle is a DVD Television combo. Music was by Jetstream who also played at the Childrens' party the previous weekend. Jim (Jetstream) handed out forms to request songs to be played, this is the kind of Disco we like who play what we want and not what they want. He had 145,000 tracks on the computer and could even play one of my favourites Can't Buy me Love by the Beatles. Jim also help out later by calling out the table numbers to get the food, reading the raffle numbers over the mike so they could be heard by those who are a bit mutton. Later he also gave a donation to the PGM's charity, for the Motor Neurone Disease Association (MND) as he had a close friend who died of it, at this point he was full up.
Colin Magee and Linda Knapp provided food "Fit for a King" all prepared that day and spread out over the snooker table. As you can see from the photos this was a truely massive spread. As we all had our food, Jim played Christmas songs at a lower volume to give a Christmas atmosphere but allowing us all to chat.
Towards the end of the evening both raffles were drawn, the main raffle of the evening and the one for the Christmas Hamper as first prize and a basket of fruit for the second prize, this raised £230 plus Jims Donation for the PGMs' charity.
At the end of the evening Linda Drakley, asked if some could stay on and help to clear the tables, many did and the room was back to normal in about 20 minutes. As we went out into the cold there was a number of taxis waiting for those who liked to let their hair down in a responsible way.
Next year is the Bi-centenary and so there are plans already to be an even bigger celebration
